Askog are a duo from Sweden that plays a mixture of black, doom, death and heavy metal and this is a review of their self released 2020 demo "Varg" which will be released on October 16th.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the demo while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody along with some touches of traditional metal and elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo style. Influences of death metal can also be heard at times but also keeping the main focus on black metal and all of the music also sticks to a heavier direction.
Askog plays a musical style that takes black, doom, death and heavy metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover darkness and nature themes.
In my opinion Askog are a very great sounding mixture of black, doom, death and heavy metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Korp". 8 out of 10.
