Toleath are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2020 ep which was released on cassette by Humanity's Plague Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while the music also adds in a decent amount of old school influences but keeps it modern at the same time.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while a couple of the songs are long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style as well as one track also adding in a brief use of clean playing
Toleath plays a style of black metal that is very raw and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness themes with some blasphemous touches.
In my opinion Toleath are a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Heavenless Gaze" and "What Lurks Beyond The Swordforest". 8 out of 10.
