Uthullun are a solo project from Chicago, Illinois that plays a very sunless and sinister form of black metal and this is a very sinister form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Dirges For The Void" which will be released in November by Wolves Of Hades.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of dissonant structures while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody along with some clean playing also being utilized briefly as well as a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and as the album progresses a brief use of melodic guitar solos and leads can also be heard on a few songs, a small amount of acoustic guitars and piano's can also be heard on the closing track.
Uthullun plays a style of black metal that is very sinister and dissonant sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover a crossing through the uttermost nether regions of mind, spirit and body.
In my opinion Uthullun are a very great sounding sinister and dissonant black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sunless" "Pyre" and "Down Rivers Of Spilled Blood". 8 out of 10.
