Aschen are a duo from Spain that plays a very modern form of black metal and this is a review of their 2026 album "The Never Ending Search" which will b e released on march 13th by WormHoleDeath Records.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody and the recording is more rooted in the modern era of the genre.
Some of the slower riffing also shows an influence of doom metal while the album also has its atmospheric moments. Blast beats and tremolo picking is also added into the faster sections of the songs which also gives the music more of a raw feeling along with the solos and leads also adding in more of a melodic style.
Clean playing can also be heard on a few tracks and the recording also brings in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as one track also bringing in a brief use of spoken words. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Basque and cover the human psyche's inability to confront its own internal fractures.
In my opinion Acchen are a very great sounding modern black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "From The Depths Of Decay" "Black Hounds Of Justice" and "The Forsaken Redeemer". 8 out of 10.
