Bolzer are a band from Switzerland that plays black metal with elements of death and doom metal and this is a review of their 2013 ep "Aura" which was released by Iron Bonehead Productions.
"Cme" starts off with heavy and dark riffing which sets up the mood for the powerful drums along with the deep death metal growls coming in shortly after that mixed with some spoken word cries and then the song goes into a more fast and black metal direction with the high pitched screams along with some melodic riffing while also keeping the death metal elements and also slowing down at times with the cries adding in a depressive touch and when the song goes back into a faster direction you can hear some blast beats.
"Entranced By The Wolfshook" starts off with powerful drums, and fast melodic black metal guitar riffing before slowing down adding in some death metal parts and deep growls as well as switching back and forth between the slow and fast parts and as the song moves on cries make their way into the song as well as the growls adding in more blackened parts, after a few minutes the music goes into a more doom orientated direction for awhile before mixing into the black metal parts while also retaining a melodic edge as well as keeping in the death metal growls.
"The Great Unifier" starts off with some slow, dark and heavy riffing which leads to the drums kick in, shouts and melodic guitar leads after awhile the song goes into a more death metal direction with deep growls as well as speeding up in some parts and adding in melody and blast beats as well as the switch back and forth between slow and fast parts, after awhile depressive cries make their presence known as well as spoken word parts which also lead to a brief use of black metal screams, as the song moves on the music goes into a more doom direction along with some melodic, dark guitar leads before going back to the faster elements and towards the end of the song you can hear some drone guitar effects.
Song lyrics on the ep cover esoteric and metaphysical topics, while the production has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound with the bass being mixed down low in the mix as well as the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Bolzer are a very great soundign hybrid of dark black metal, death and doom and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Entranced By The Wolfshook". RECOMMENDED BUY.
