Internum Flagellationis/Self Titled/Pan & Goat Records/2013 EP Review

  Internum  Flagellationis  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  very  depressive  and  suicidal  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2013  ep  which  was  released  by  Pan  &  Goat  Records.

  "Le  Vieux  Mirroir"  starts  off  with  some  slow  lo-fi  depressive  black  metal  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  powerful  bass  and  synths  which  are  mixed  down  very  low  which  leads  to  some  grim  sounding  screams  and  as  the  song  moves  on  the riffing changes  around  a  bit.

  "Exhume"  starts  off  with  some  clean  guitar  paying  which  utilizes  finger  picking  and  has  a  primitive  feeling  to  them  and  after  a  minute  dark  synths  make  their  presence  known  as  well  as  some  grim  depressive  screams.

  "Flucons  De  Neige"  starts  off  with  a  distorted  guitar  riff  which  leads  to  the  drum  programming  and  synths  which  also  combine  with  the  guitars  along  with  some  sloppy  elements  and  there  are  no  vocals  present  with  the  song  being  all  instrumental.

  "Le  Saints  Pieux"  starts  off  with  some  sound  effects  and  distorted  guitar  playing  which  leads  to  some  drum  programming  and  after  awhile  depressive  screams  and  primitive  synths  make  their  presence  known  and  the  guitar  riffs  start  sounding  even  more  sloppy,

  "Ne  Jamais  Se  Relever"  starts  off  with  some  amp  distortion  before  going  into  some  dark  sounding  guitar  riffs  and  drum  programming  and  after  awhile  the  scream  start  kicking  in  and  the  song  is  very  primitive  with  no  power  chords  being  utilized  and  the  song  closes  with  a  sloppy  guitar  lead  and  drum programming.

  "Finale"  starts  off  with  some  sound  effects  which  lead  to  some  drone  style  guitar  riffing  and  after  awhile  drum  programming  makes  its  presence  known  and  the  music  goes  into  a  more  primitive  area  with  the  programmed  drums  while  the  riffing  goes  into a  doom  direction  and  closing  the  ep.

  Song  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  suicidal  and  depressive  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  while  Internum  Flagellations  are  a  very  original  sounding  band  their  instrument  ability  wont  be  to  everybody's  liking  and  I  would  only  recommend  it  to  the  more  open  minded  fans  of  depressive  suicidal  black  metal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Le  Vieux  Mirroir"  and  "Ne  Jamais  Se  Relever".  RECOMMENDED.
