Gestalte are a band from the Netherlands that plays a very old school, raw and primitive form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Ashes Of The Soul" which was released by Heidens Hart Records.
"The Beginning Of The end" starts off with a soft acoustic piece which utilizes finger picking along with some drums which leads to some heavier guitars and clean singing while also keeping the acoustic parts and after awhile the black metal screams, blast beats and fast primitive guitar riffs kick in before going into a more mid paced direction and switching back and forth between the fast and mid paced sections and around the 4 minute mark a very dark sounding guitar solos starts mixing with the rhythm's and vocals.
"Onder de zuilen des doods" starts off with dark black metal guitar riffs and drums which leads to the music going into a more faster, primitive and old school direction along with the grim vocals and after awhile the song starts mixing in slow, mid paced and fast sections together as well as introducing deep demonic growls as well as some melody in the riffing and as the song moves on some powerful bass guitar makes its presence known as well as a dark melodic guitar solo which mixes in with the slower rhythms.
"Beyond Cosmic Thresholds" starts off with faster riffing, blast beats and grim screams before going into an old school black metal direction as well as mixing in some deeper growls and mid paced sections.
"Ashes Of The Soul" starts off with slow and dark guitar riffing and powerful drums which lead to the growls and as the song moves on you can hear some powerful bass playing and after awhile grim style singing makes its presence known which in return leads to a dark, melodic guitar lead mixing in with the instruments and vocals which evolve into screams and set up the pace for the bass playing to get even more powerful and introduce the acoustic guitars which close the song.
"A Red Black Holocaust Sky In A Nightmare Dimension" s tarts off with some powerful bass playing which leads to the blast beats, primitive guitar riffs and screams and after a couple of minutes the song slows down and starts utilizing some dark sounding melodies in the riffing as well as mixing in a different style of vocals before going back into a faster direction and mixing in some slow and mid paced sections.
"Een verleden niet vergeten" starts off with slow and dark guitar riffing which sets up the mood for the powerful bass, drums and vocals which also utilize some melodic elements while remaining true to black metal as well as the song mixing slow and mid paced parts together which also leads to a dark guitar solo and after awhile the song starts mixing in some fast and old school elements and the song closes with another guitar lead.
"Op Naar Het Woud Der Smaten (Deel 1)" starts off with a grunt, drums and mid paced black metal guitar riffing setting up the pace for the blast beats and grim screams before going back into a mid paced direction as w ell as switching back and forth and mixing in some primitive riffing and a different variety of screams.
"Der Boom Der Smartan (Deel 2)" starts off with a dark old school black metal guitar riff before the drums, growls and screams kick in which in return leads to the music going into a more fast and primitive direction as well as mixing in some guitar leads and powerful bass lines which in return leads to the song switching back and forth between the slow and fast sections and utilizing a variety of many different types of black metal vocals.
Lyrics are written in a mixture of Dutch and cover Occultism, Death and Darkness, while t he production has a very strong, powerful and dark sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording with some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
