Boréalys are a duo from Quebec, Canada that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "L'héritage" which will be released in September by Northern Silence Productions.
Spoken word parts and water sounds start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while growls are also added into some parts of the songs. Synths are also added into certain sections of the recording along with some of the tracks also adding in a small amount of clear vocals and the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style.
Choir samples can also be heard briefly along with a couple of songs also adding in a small amount of acoustic guitars. When the music speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and cover history, tales and legends of their heritage.
In my opinion Boréalys are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Harricana ; La soeur" and "Spirit Lake ; Le cimetière des oubliés". 8 out of 10.
