Mexico's Exaversum has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a raw and extreme style of black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Caterva Anti Elite" which was released as a joint effort between Vampiro and Inhumar Records.
A very epic sounding synth intro starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done on more of an old school extreme metal style along with some growls also being used at times. Clear vocals can also be heard briefly and clean playing is also added on a couple of tracks as well as a couple of songs also being very long and epic in length, spoken word parts are also added towards the end.
On this recording Exaversum plays a style of black metal that is very raw and aggressive and shows influences from other extreme metal styles. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Human Nature, Death, Darkness, Hecatomb and Damnation themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Exaversum and if you are a fan of raw and extreme black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Caterva Anti Elite" "Non Prophets" and "Dyrnwyn". 8 out of 10.
