Wooden Throne are a solo project from Finland that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for more of an atmospheric and epic style of black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Eternal Wanderer Of The Night Sky" which will be released on August 25th by Purity Through Fire.
Ambient style synths start off the album and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times. The music also has its atmospheric moments while the riffs also add in a lot of melody along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. All of the drum beats are also programmed along with the songs also adding in a lot of piano's as well as the music also showing an influence of the mid 90's era and the whole recording sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction, clean playing can also be heard briefly.
On t his recording Wooden Throne remains true to the atmospheric and epic style of black emtal that he had established on his previous release. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover moon and cosmos themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Wooden Throne and if you are a fan of epic and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Forward into Starless Abyss" and "Firm Roots of the Sacred North". 8 out of 10.
