Morta are a band from Spain t hat has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2023 album "La España negra" which will be released in September by Signal Rex.
A very dark synth orientated intro starts off the album before going into a heavier and faster direction which also utilizes a lot of blast beats. Vocals are done in more of deep growling style while the music is very heavily rooted in the early 90's black metal style with a touch of the 80's first wave era.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. The songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
A couple of the tracks are also long and epic in length as well as some high pitched screams also being added into certain sections of the album along with one song also being more of an acoustic instrumental, clean chants are also utilized briefly. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Spanish and cover death and ocultism themes.
In my opinion t his is another great sounding recording f rom Morta and if you are a f an of raw and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "La caída de los infieles" "La muerte santa" and "Transustanciación Diabólica". 8 out of 10.
