Haust are a band from Norway that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording of black metal and punk and this is a review of their 2024 album "Negative Music" which will be released in April by Fysik Format Records.
A very heavy and aggressive sound starts off the album along with some angry shouting vocals a few seconds later. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the mid tempo sections of the songs also add in elements of punk rock and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
At times the music also mixes in the heaviness and raw energy of black metal while being influenced by first and second waves of the genre. Screams can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with the guitar leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them, one song also adds in a brief use of keyboards and most of the album also sticks to a mid tempo direction.
On this recording Haust focuses more on a metal influenced punk style as well as keeping some of the black metal elements of previous releases. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover fear and disgust for double standards in today's society.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Haust and if you are a fan of black metal and punk, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Left To Die" "Back To Nothing" "The Devil At My Heels" and "Something Evil". 8 out of 10.
