Necht are a band from Calgary, Alberta, Canada that plays a very grim, martial and epic form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2024 album "The Prophecy Of Karnifor" which will be released in May.
Epic sounding keyboards start off the album before going into a heavier direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can b e heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while death metal growls can also be heard at times. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the keyboards also give the album more of an atmospheric feeling when t hey mix in with the heavier sections of the tracks.
The music also mixes in influences from both the old school and modern era's of the genre along with one song also introducing clean playing onto the album as well as some of tracks also being very long and epic in length, operatic choirs can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover the mythos of the Enkari, the ancient human civilization and their revered sun-god B'ahn.
In my opinion Necht are a very great sounding grim, martial and epic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Within Her Jaws Dwells The Dark Promise Of Our Death" "Into Bondage Born" and "For Violence Was Wrought On Me". 8/5 out of 10.
