Lunatic Affliction are a band from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for more of an atmospheric and cosmic mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their self released 2024 album "Nerto Brixtia".
Clean playing and atmospheric sounding synths which also returns on later tracks start off the album along with some spoken word parts before going into a heavier direction. Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and blast beats are also added into the faster sections of the songs.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic yet chaotic style along with some death metal growls also being utilized at times and the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
On this recording Lunatic Affliction remain true to the atmospheric and cosmic mixture of black and death metal that they had established on their previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are rooted in Norse and Celtic Mythology and cover death, depression, ghosts, darkness, isolation, misanthropy, ancient gods, rites and majestic nature.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Lunatic Affliction and if you are a fan of atmospheric and cosmic black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Suffering Of The Frail Souls" "The Death of The Dark Grave" and "The Emperor of The Dark Throne". 8 out of 10.
