Malaöun are a solo project from Malaysia that plays an atmospheric mixture of black, doom and death metal and this is a review of his 2024 album "The inexorable Darkness" which will be released in April by Iron, Blood & Death Corporation.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction while you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording. Elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the songs and the vocals also bring in a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the solos and leads are also done in a very dark yet melodic style. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard along with some melodies also being added into the guitar riffing at times and the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The music also has its atmospheric moments along with the tremolo picking in the faster riffing also giving the songs more of a raw feeling when they are utilized as well as some tracks also adding in whispered vocals. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover occultism, darkness and evil themes.
In my opinion Malaöun is a very great sounding atmospheric mixture of black, doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Communion With Darkness" and "A Funeral Pyre". 8/5 out of 10.
