Lloth are a band from Greece that has been featured before in this zine and plays a Hellenic and melodic mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2025 album "Archees Legeones (Ancient Legions)" which will be released in May by Theogonia Records.
A very heavy and aggressive sound starts off the album while blast beats are also added into the faster sections of the songs. Melodies are also mixed into a lot of the guitar riffing along with some synths also being utilized at times and the harsh vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
A lot of the music is very heavily rooted in the classic Hellenic style mixed in with a more modern touch while clear singing can also be heard at times. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some death metal growls also being added into certain sections of the recording.
The songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some percussion also being utilized briefly as well as some tracks also adding in a small amount of clean playing, acoustic guitars, folk instruments, spoken words and female vocals. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Ancient Battles, Existential Reflection, Hellenic Pride and the Left Hand Path.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Lloth and if you are a fan of melodic Hellenic black and death metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Angel Wings' "Dark Mountains" "Arise" and "Doomed Black Years". 8 out of 10.
