Imperatus are a band from Vietnam that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording goes for a blackened form of death metal and this is a review of their self released 2025 album "The Dusk Of Hopeless Dreams" which will be released in April.
Horror movie style keyboards start off the album along with some tribal style percussion a few seconds later before introducing melodic guitar leads and leads onto the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and brutal blast beats can be heard and the vocals are mostly black metal screams mixed in with a few death metal growls.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced d and fast parts. A lot of the music also goes back to the mid 90's era of black and death metal along with some of the vocals also adding in more of a shouting style as the recording progresses and one song also adds in a brief bass guitar lead.
On this recording Imperatus goes for more of blackened death metal style which is a little bit more different then the black metal style of the previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover war, wrath, hatred and revenge against hypocrisy.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Imperatus and if you are a fan of blackened death metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Echoes Of My Soul" "Wrath Of The Late Huntsman" and "Within The Grave'. 8 out of 10.
