Ungoliath are a solo project from Germany that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2025 ep "The Fourfold Descent".
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while the riffs also add in a lot of melody and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while the music also mixes in influences from both the modern and old school era's of the genre. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some keyboards also being used added into the background at times, clean playing can also be heard briefly and spoken words are also added on the closing track.
Ungoliath plays a style of black metal that is very aggressive, melodic and atmospheric sounding. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover the dark lore of Tendalied.
In my opinion Ungoliath are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Harvest Of The Fallen Sun" and "Shroud Of The Eternal Night". 8 out of 10.
