Kyprian's Circle where a solo project from Finland that played an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his 1999 ep "Notatulen vartija" which will be re-issued in October 2018 by Werewolf Records.
Folk instruments start off the ep and also gives the music more of a medieval atmosphere while acoustic guitars can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction along with the vocals being mostly grim black metal screams as well as the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the keyboards when they are utilized gives the songs more of an epic and atmospheric feeling along with some spoken word parts also being used briefly and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the tracks more rawness as well as the music also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style.
Kyprian's Circle played a style of black metal that was very raw, epic and atmospheric sounding, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover witchcraft, anti Christianity, folklore and mysticism themes.
In my opinion Kyprian's Circle where a very great sounding atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kun puhui myrskin henki" and "Kuolemasi mina olen". 8 out of 10.
