This is a review of a split album between France's Malepeste and Dysylumn called "Ce qui fut, ce qui est, ce qui sera" which will be released in October by Goathorned Productions and we will start off the review with Malepeste a band that plays a very ritualistic form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some water sounds while whispers can also be heard briefly along with some synths also being utilized briefly as well as a small amount of ethnic instruments which also gives the music more of a ritualistic chanting and throat singing can also be heard briefly.
After the intro the music goes into a heavier direction while clean vocals can also be heard briefly before evolving into angry black metal screams along with the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody as well as the faster sections of the songs utilizing tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them as well as some classical guitars also being utilized briefly and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style and growls are also used briefly, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover death, occultism and ritual themes.
In my opinion Malepeste are a very great original sounding ritualistic black metal band and if you are a fan of ritualistic black metal, you should check out their side of t he split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Clotho" and "Atropos".
Next up is Dysylumn a band that plays a progressive mixture of black and death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark and heavy sound while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style along with the vocals being blackened growls while the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody and when the music speeds up blast beats can also be heard.
Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the tremolo picking gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the music also getting very progressive at times as well as some clean vocals also being used briefly and a couple of the tracks are long and epic in length and synths are added onto the outro, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover psychology, hallucination and space themes.
In my opinion Dysylumn are a very great sounding progressive mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Decima".
In my opinion this si a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of the different styles of black metal. 8/5 out of 10.
