Totenmesse are a band from Poland that plays a modern form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "To" which will be released in November by Pagan Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody as well as the vocals being a mixture of growls and black metal screams and clean vocals are also used briefly.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard while the tremolo picking gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style as well as some spoken word parts also being used briefly and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, as the album progresses they also bring in a cover of King Crimson's "20th Century Schizoid Man" and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Totenmesse plays a style of black metal that is very modern while still having a great amount of raw aggression and heaviness, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Polish and cover death, fantasy and socio-political themes.
In my opinion Toyenmesse are a very great sounding modern black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Pusty dzwon" "21st Century Schizoid Man" and "To". 8 out of 10.
