Mystagos are a solo project from Spain that plays a raw and orthodox form of black metal and this is a review of his 2018 album "Ho Anthropos Tes Anomias" which will be released by BlackSeed Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams as well as the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style and the riffs also add in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music also mixes in a great amount of modern black metal elements along with a couple of tracks also adding in a brief use of melodic yet ritualistic chants as well as some spoken word parts also being used briefly and some of the riffing also adds in some dissonant structures and the music always remains heavy.
Mystagos plays a style of black metal that is very raw, orthodox and modern sounding, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are a concept album that narrates the parable of the Worldbearer as he attempts to elevate the spirits of his disciples and guide them towards the Black Flame.
In my opinion Mystagos are a very great sounding raw and orthodox black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Mystagogue" "We Are The Theotokos" "March Of Mesu Betesh" and "Rise Of The Hierophant". 8 out of 10.
