A Sea Of Dead Trees are a solo project from Scotland that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a mixture of post black metal and shoegaze and this is a review of his 2021 album "Garmonbozla" which will be released in July by Trepanation Recordings.
Clean playing starts off the album and also introduces elements of post rock into the music while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Touches of shoegaze are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with keyboards also being mixed in with the heavier sections of the songs.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style while one track also introduces clean vocals onto the album. High pitched black metal screams are also utilized at times along with some of the tracks also being instrumentals as well as most of the music also sticking to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
On this recording A Sea of Dead Trees remains true to the mixture of post black metal and shoegaze that he had established on his previous release. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover anxiety, depression and Lovecraftian Horror themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from A Sea Of Dead Trees and if you are a fan of post black metal and shoegaze, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Carried Away By Owls" "The View From Halfway Down" and "Vallis Lacrimarum". 8 out of 10.
