Ouija are a band from Spain that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very aggressive and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Selonophile Impia" which will be released on May 28th by negra nit.
Sounds of wind start off the ep along with some clean playing a few seconds later before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while clean vocals can also be heard briefly. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also being very heavily rooted in the 90's era as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style, clean playing can also be heard briefly and a couple of of the tracks also adds in a brief use of keyboards before returning back to a heavier direction and at times the vocals also get very deep and demonic sounding.
On this recording Ouija goes into more of an aggressive style of black metal than previous releases as well as remaining true to the old school and traditional aspects of their 90's material. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Occultism and Darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ouija and if you are a fan of aggressive and old school black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Therianthropic Involution". 8 out of 10.
