Auld are a band from Australia that plays a folk influenced form of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their 2021 rp "...of Petrichor and I" which was released by Eschatonic Records.
Folk instruments and atmospheric soundscapes start off the ep and also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs. The riffs also add in a great amount of melody along with the faster parts of the songs also adding in a lot of blast beats and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them
Vocals are mostly deep yet grim black metal screams while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some clean playing also being added into some parts of the recording.
Auld plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric and melodic sounding as well as adding in some touches of folk music to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover melancholy poetry and Scottish folklore themes.
In my opinion Auld are a very great sounding folk influenced atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Hollow Mews". 8 out of 10.
