Archaeopteris are a band from France with members from Croc Noir, Supertzar and Toward that plays an experimental and avant garde mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2021 ep "Vision Chaotiques D´un Songe Halluciné" which will be released in June as a joint effort between Personal Records and Void Wanderer Productions.
A very dark, distorted yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams while the riffs also ad in a great amount of dissonant structures and both of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the tremolo picking also gives the music more of a raw feeling. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the songs also getting very avant garde and experimental sounding at times, synths can also be heard in some parts of the recording and acoustic guitars are also added on the second track.
Archaeopteris plays a musical style that takes dissonant black and death metal and mixes them with elements of experimental and avant garde to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw w hile the lyrics are written in French and cover chaos, nothingness and void themes.
In my opinion Archaeopteris are a very great sounding experimental and avant garde mixture of dissonant black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Vision Chaotiques". 8 out of 10.
