Narrative Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We started out as 2 guys jamming, somewhere around 2010. In 2014 we decided to record a demo with two tracks. Both songs have German lyrics because that felt best at that time.

After that we weren't really active until we got in touch with other guys in the scene. That gave the band an impuls and we picked up the pace by releasing an EP in 2021. Immediately after, the song writing continued and we recorded the upcoming full length.

2.You have your fist full length coming out in 2023, musically how does it differ from your previous demo and ep?

The Dunkeilheit Und Wahnsinn demo has 2 songs on it with German lyrics and is quite rough. The EP is more like the current style containing other influences besides black metal. Also the lyrics are in English which was something we didn't do before. The full length contains 6 songs which means there has to be a certain album flow but also gives room for more dynamics. I think we succeeded in our goal.

3.The lyrics on the new recording are a concept album, can you tell us a little bit more about the story you covered with these release?

On the full length we decided to take one specific subject: The Islam. If you look at the amount of wars that has been started based on differences between religion, we have to ask ourselves: "Is this worth it?" We are not religious but if you are, good for you. Creating havoc by blowing yourself up isn't the way to go if you disagree with someone. Also, the interpretation of the islam is being abused by some to gain more control in a sickening way.

So, as you can see, the subject itself is enough to give some inspiration.

4.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

Wether the EP contains multiple themes, the demo Dunkelheit Und Wahnsinn is more about the human psych and how we are affected by each other. We use and learn from another, and therefore we created more welfare. But every step forward has a downside and we wrote some lyrics about that.

5.In the bands logo there is also a Luciferian sigil, do the band members have any interest in the left hand path or occult?

When it comes to live, we believe in freedom and independance. It can be easy to follow someone else his path, because they seem to know it all. But not every direction is the right direction, not for you. So try to have an open mind, read, create your own opinion. For us, that's where the luciferian sigil stands for.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Narrative'?

We look at the world and create our own opinion about it. Understanding the things that happen to us, that we call life can be shaped in some kind of narrative. To choose this as a bandname allows us some leeway wether it's about lyrics or music.

7. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?

It is from the French artist Gustave Doré, who named it "Him The Almighty Power Hurled Headlong Flaming from the Eternal Sky".

He made a lot of sketches and we chose this one because it suits the lyrics and purpose of being on a cover of an album.

8.Has the band done any live shows or is this strictly a studio project?

In the first stage of the band, we rehearsed and played in front of people. Nowadays, there is a complete band from 2 countries that have to be available in the same time.

So, I won't rule it out for the right occasion but no frequent tours from our part.

9.Currently the band is unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

We searched but that hasn't lead to a proposal that we thought was suitable for this band. We'll see if it works out on a later stage.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

As always, there are enough opinions about everything. Our music seem to attract music lovers that aren't fixed on a specific kind of black metal. Of course, it can be considered extreme metal but because there are a variety of other elements, some people think it's hard to file. That can be considered as a compliment I guess, mostly because we like to be versatile.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Good question, because we are always thinking about our next step. The music that we've written so far has a strong link with the demo years, maybe even more traditional black metal. On the other side, we came up with some interesting parts that are more in the style of this new album.

So it's probably a combination of those two together.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I liked listening to music with a good vibe, wether that was Iron Maiden, Fleetwood Mac or Venom. Although I'm not on the same musical level as these guys, haha!

Usually I'm way behind with 'new' music but this year my band mates gave some awesome suggestions like 'Mare Cognitum' and 'Kjeld'. From Germany there are a few underground bands like 'Vivus Humare' and 'Isolfur' which I like, but also 'Waldgeflüster and 'Der Weg Einer Freiheit' which obviously isn't typical black.

Check them out!

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for this interview and your review, we appreciate that!

For those who aren't narrow minded: try our new album!
