Semai are a solo project from the Czech Republic that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a mixture of black metal, drone and noise and this is a review of his self released 2023 album "!36199".
Distort4ed sounding drones start off the album along with the album also introducing elements of noise a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and some of the beats are also programmed.
At times the noises get very harsh sounding while the music also has its experimental moments. Bass guitars have a very dominant presence throughout the recording adding in a lot of heaviness to the songs along with all of the tracks also being instrumentals as well as the music also capturing an improv atmosphere. Elements of black metal can also be heard in the heavier sections of the songs and the whole recording sticks to a slower direction.
On this recording Semai takes black metal, drone and noise and mixes them together to create a very heavy yet experimental recording as well as keeping everything instrumental. The production sounds very dark while the song themes revolve around the planet Yuggoth from the writings of H.P Lovecraft and it moons, which astronomers call Trans-Neptunic objects.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording f rom Semai and if you are a fan of black metal, drone and noise, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Eris" and "Aphelion". 8 out of 10.
