Nächtlich are a duo from Toronto, Ontario, Canada that plays a very raw and lo-fi form of black metal with elements of punk and ambient and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Third Ritual" which will be re-issued in March, 2023 by Inferna Profundus Records.
Ambient style synths start off the ep and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times and also gives the recording more of an atmospheric feeling. Vocals are mostly grim yet tortured sounding black metal screams while the riffing also mixes in the primitive aggression of punk while the music also captures a very lo-fi atmosphere.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also mix in a good amount of old school influences. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they ar e done in a very dark yet melodic style along with a couple of the songs also being instrumentals and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
Nächtlich plays a style of black metal that is very raw and lo-fi sounding as well as adding in elements of ambient and punk to create a sound of their own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover alchemy, occultism and necromancy themes.
In my opinion Nächtlich are a very great sounding raw and lo-fi black metal duo with elements of ambient and punk and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Orthanc" and "Starsight of The Outer Regions". 8 out of 10.
