Winter Willow are a solo project from Sweden that plays a depressive form of post black metal and this is a review of his 2023 album "Esistentiel Vånda" which was released by Talheim Records.
Post rock style clean playing starts off the album while spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. High pitched depressive black metal screams are also utilized on a few tracks as well as the synths also mixing in a great amount of synths which add to the melancholic atmosphere.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the riffs also ad d in a decent amount of melody. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffing also having its heavier moments as well as the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style and the whole album sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction.
Winter Willow plays a musical style that takes depressive black metal and post rock and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Swedish and cover melancholy, nostalgia and emptiness themes.
In my opinion Winter Willow are a very great sounding depressive post black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Självmordstankar till Morgonkaffet" and "I en Värld av Ensamhet". 8 out of 10.
