Averse Concept are a duo from Los Angeles, California that plays a very atmospheric, and heavy form of post black metal and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "Symbol Of Loss".
Drums range from slow to mid paced playing with only a small amount fast drumming and blast beats being used on this recording, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine post black metal with more modern day metal elements to create a sound of their own as well as some melody being thrown into the riffing at times along with some faster parts being used on the last song and there are no to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording, as for the acoustic guitars they are only used briefly and use finger picking to bring some dark elements to the ep.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams that have a hardcore feeling to them at times as well as a brief use of deep death metal growls, while the lyrics cover loss and personal struggles, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound for being a self released recording with a couple of songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Averse Concept are a decent sounding post black metal band and while I do not see their music appealing to all people, I still see them getting a decent following from the more open minded fans of the genre. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Welcome To The Trance" and "Desolate Alleviete". RECOMMENDED BUY.
