Nordafrost are a band from Germany that plays a very fast and heavy form of grim sounding black metal with some death metal elements and this is a review of their 2002 album "Dominus Frigoris" which was released by Godeater Records in 2013 with some added bonus tracks which where originally included on split's, e.p's and compilation's.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very heavy and grim sounding combining raw and primitive elements with melody and death metal influences to create a sound of their own and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording, as for the acoustic guitars they are only used briefly and use finger picking to bring atmospheric elements to the music.
Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams, while the lyrics cover cold, darkness and nature themes, as for the production it has a very strong and powerful sound which does not take away from the raw and primitive nature of the music.
In my opinion Nordafrost are a very great sounding heavy, grim and melodic black metal band with death metal elements and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Battle Of The Winterhordes" "Nocturnal Cult" "Leichenduft" and "Frozen Paths". RECOMMENDED BUY.
