Deafknife/Self Titled/Broken Limb Recordings/2012 CD Review

Deafknife  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plats  a  Lovecraft  inspired  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2012  album  which  was  released  by  Broken  Limb  Recordings.

Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  post  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw and  primitive  sounding  along  with  some  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing   as  well  as  some  soft and  clean  playing  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  post  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  deep  growls,  while  the  lyrics  are  based  on  the  writings  of  Lovecraft,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  while  you  can  hear  all  of  the  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  along  with  a  mixture  of  studio  and  live  tracks.

In  my  opinion  Deathknife  are  a  very  great  sounding  Lovecraft  inspired  post  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "To  The  Worms"  "Shub  Niggurath"  and  "Beyond  The  Wall  Of  Sleep".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
