Keys Of Orthanc are a solo project from Quebec, Canada that plays a Tolkien inspired form of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of his 2018 album "Dush agh Golnauk" which will be released in June by Naturmacht Productions.
Avant garde sounding keyboards start off the album before introducing ambient style synths onto the recording which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music while also giving the songs a more atmospheric touch as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
Some of the tracks are long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with some spoken word parts also being used at times as well as the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style and when the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the songs a more raw feeling and the songs also bring in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Keys Of Orthanc plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric and synth orientated, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are based upon the writings of Tolkien.
In my opinion Keys Of Orthanc are a very great sounding Tolkien inspired atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ringwraiths" and "The White Wizard". 8 out of 10.
