Barkasth are a band from Ukraine that plays a very traditional form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Decaying" which was released by Svarga Music.
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the album while all of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams as well as a small amount of clean playing being brought into some of the songs.
Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly while the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody along with the faster sections of the songs also using a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling as well as a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style and as the album progresses deep growls can also be heard briefly.
Barkasth plays a style of black metal that is very raw, atmospheric, melodic and traditional sounding, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Anti Religion and Philosophical themes.
In my opinion Barkasth are a very great sounding melodic and traditional black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Begging By Freaks" "Soul Away" and "...Where Was The Son Of God". 8 out of 10.
