Pious Levus are a band from San Antonio, Texas that plays a very raw and old school mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2018 album "Beast Of The Foulest Depths" which was released by Warfare Noise Productions.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also adds in a touch of war metal while the vocals are mostly blackened metal screams as well as the music having a lot of 80's and 90's underground metal influences.
A small amount of dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while the music also mixes in elements of death and thrash metal and they also add a modern touch to an old school style along with some of the tracks also bringing in a small mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very raw and chaotic style as well as the music always remaining very raw and heavy.
Pious Levus plays a musical style that goes back to the early days of war, black and death metal while also having a modern approach to the songs, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Blasphemy, Anti Christianity and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Pious Levus are a very great sounding raw and old school mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nameless Cruciforms" "Crimson God Possession" "Encursing Invader" and "Conquered Shrine". 8 out of 10.
