God's Bastard are a duo from New York that plays a progressive form of black metal with some elements of death metal, hardcore and crust and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Last Standing Village" which will be released in August by I, Voidhanger Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Vocals are also a mixture of high pitched black metal screams, death metal growls and hardcore style shouts.
The riffs also add in a great in a great amount of melody while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. At times the music also gets very progressive sounding along with some elements of crust, most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and the solos and leads are also done in a very distorted and melodic style and clean playing can also be heard briefly.
God's Bastard plays a style of black metal that is very modern and progressive sounding along with the death metal, crust and hardcore elements making the songs stand out a lot more. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover a cathartic journey.
In my opinion God's Bastard are a very great sounding progressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "To The Last Standing Village". 8 out of 10.
