Tsatthoggua are a band from Germany that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays a musical style they describe as being hyperspeed black metal and this is a review of their 2020 compilation album "Hallelujah Messiah" which will be released in August by Osmose Productions and consists of their 1995 demo "Siegeswille" and 2 Abyss studio re-mixes.
Raw tremolo picking starts off the compilation before going into a faster direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies and spoken word parts are also utilized at times.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the music was also considered very raw and aggressive for that era. Keyboards are also added into some parts of the recording and also gives the songs more of a horror atmosphere when they are utilized as well as the vocals also getting deep sounding at times.
When guitar solos are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style along with the music also showing some death metal and grindcore influences at times, all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of German and English and cover the philosophy of Nietzsche, Satanism, Blasphemy, Sadomasochism and Bondage themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Tsatthoggua and if you are a fan of raw and old school satanic black metal, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE 'The Belief -he Lie" "Interlude Into Immortality" and "Courtesan Mary Slut". 8 out of 10.
