Slovenia's Snogg has returned with a new recording which shows the music going into more of an ambient and experimental black metal direction and this is a review of their self released 2020 album "Ritual Of The Sun" which will be released on July 17th.
Field recordings and drones start off the album while the music also brings in a great amount of ambient and drone elements. The only track that is presented on the recording is also 37 minutes in length along with some acoustic guitars also being added into some parts of the album.
As the track progresses a brief use of ritualistic spoken word parts can also be heard before going into a heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly deep yet grim sounding black metal screams along with some violins also being used briefly, guitar leads are also used in the background for a few seconds as well as the track always sticking to a slower musical direction.
On this recording Snogg gets more experimental and ritualistic as well as cutting back on the black metal elements of previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the myths and legends of many different sun worshiping religions.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Snogg and if you are a fan of experimental and ambient black metal, you should check out this album. 8 out of 10.
