Cultus Profano are a duo from Los Angeles, California that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Accursed Possession" which will be released in August by Debemur Morti Productions.
A very dark and ritualistic sound starts off the album while whispers and spoken word parts can also be heard in the background briefly before going into a heavier musical direction. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while half of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the music also brings in a more modern style of the genre.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also getting very atmospheric and mesmeric sounding at times as well as some elements of 90's Italian and Greek era occult black metal also being utilized at times, when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Alchemy, Occultism, Mysticism and Magick themes.
In my opinion Cultus Profano are a very great sounding occult black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cursed In Sin, Opus 25" "Towards the Temple Of Darkened Falmes, Opus 19" and "Crown Of Hellfire, Opus 11". 8 out of 10.
