Belgium's Alasthor have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an occult mixture of black, death, thrash metal and crust and this is a review of their self released 2022 ep "Something Infernal".
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the ep while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and clear vocals can also be heard briefly.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the ep also adds in a couple of brief keyboard instrumentals. The songs also mix in some elements of crust, death and thrash metal along with the solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style when they are utilized as well as all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them.
On this recording Alsthor brings in more of a melodic occult black metal style as well as keeping the death, thrash metal and crust elements of previous releases. The production sounds very raw an heavy while the lyrics cover Left Hand Path, Death, Destruction and hate themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Alasthor and if you are a fan of occult black metal with elements of death, thrash metal and crust, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Something Infernal" and "Possessed By The Goddess". 8 out of 10.
