Idol Of Fear are a band from Ontario, Canada that plays an experimental form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Trespasser" which will be released in march by Somnolence Productions.
Dark soundscapes and synths start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are a mixture of growls and black metal screams. The songs also mix in the experimental elements into the heavier sections of the songs along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
At times the music also gets very dissonant sounding while the solos and leads are also done in a very dark yet melodic style. Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording along with one track also adding in a brief use of Gregorian chants and some tracks also add in a small amount of clean playing, all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction and the album also closes with an instrumental.
Idol Of Fear plays a style of black metal that is very experimental, dissonant, modern and mid tempo sounding. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, introspective and personal themes.
In my opinion Idol Of Fear are a very great sounding experimental black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Flayed Horizon" "Trespasser" and "All Which Can burn". 8 out of 10.
