Illumination are a band from Brazil that plays a very atmospheric, depressive and raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2022 ep "Worship Death More Than Life" which will b e released in March by Personal Records.
Dark soundscapes start off the ep along with some acoustic guitars a few seconds later before going into a heavier musical direction. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
Vocals a re done in a more deeper black metal style while the music also has its depressive moments. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some spoken word parts also being utilized on a couple of tracks and the solos and leads are also done in a very dark and melodic style.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding along with some songs also adding in a small amount of clean playing as well as some whispers also being utilized briefly, on later tracks the vocals also evolve into screams and they also add in a couple of brief synth and classical guitar orientated instrumentals. The production sounds very dark and r aw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Luciferian, Space and Death themes.
In my opinion Illumination are a very great sounding atmospheric, depressive and raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Occult Science" and "Venus Shukra". 8 out of 10.
