Sweden's Devourer have returned with a new recording which shows them music going for more of an aggressive and melodic style of black metal mixed in with touches of death metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Raptus" which was released by Iron, Blood And Death Corporation.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music also shows an influence of the classic Swedish style mixed in with modern elements and all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the album you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also add in a lot of melody. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with one track also introducing clean chants and vocals onto the recording.
Spoken word parts van also be heard on a couple of songs along with some of the music also bringing in elements of death metal and growling vocals which is also different from previous releases the band has put out in the last few years and as the album progresses a brief use of atmospheric sounds can also be heard The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Darkness, Death occultism, Anti Religion and Existential themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Devourer and if you are a f an of aggressive and melodic black and death metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bearer Of Dark Tidings" "Apokruptein" "Visions From Megiddo" and "Torrents To The Void". 8 out of 10.
