Nhialic are an international duo with members from Armenia and Sudan that plays a very melodic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2022 ep "Medz Yeghern".
A very dark yet heavy sound starts off the ep while the faster sections of the songs also add in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Spoken word parts can also be heard on a couple of tracks while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody.
Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams while synths can also be heard in some parts of the recording. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some clean playing also being utilized briefly as well as the music also showing an influence of the classic Swedish style at times, on some tracks the vocals also add in more of a deep and demonic style and one song is also an instrumental and flutes are also added on the closing track.
Nhialic plays a style of black metal that is very melodic and old school in the mid 90's to early 2000's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while t he lyrics cover History, Literature and Darkness themes.
In my opinion Nhialic are a very great sounding melodic and old school black duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Waltz Into Darkness" and "Medz Yeghern". 8 out of 10.
