Slovenia's Snøgg have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for an avant garde form of post black metal with elements of noise and this is a review of their self released 2022 album "Dan, ko je Vrag šalo" which will be released in March.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while the vocals are mostly angry yet high pitched sounding black metal screams. The only track that is presented on the recording is also over 20 minutes in length along with some clean playing also being added into certain sections of the album.
The music also adds in a great amount of avant garde and jazz elements while death metal growls can also be heard at times. Folk and stringed instruments can also b e heard at times and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling.
Touches of post metal can also be heard at times along with the album also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some spoken word parts also being utilized briefly and as the album progresses noises are also added into the music. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are based upon 'Deseti brat' by Josip Jurcic.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Snøgg and if you are a fan of avant garde post black metal with elements of doom metal, you should check out this recording. 8 out of 10.
