This is a review of a split album between Germany's Mightiest and Funeral Procession called "Of Deathfires, A Tomb & The Night Without End" which will be released on September 16th by Can Records and we will start off the review with Mightiest a band that plays a very melodic and old school form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with melodic riffing and growling vocals while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to t hem. Vocals are mostly grim yet deep black metal scream along with all of the tracks being long and epic in length and the music is heavily rooted in the 90's era.
Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the song along with a brief use of clear vocals. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling,. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover darkness and evil themes.
In my opinion Mightiest are a very great sounding melodic and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split.. R$ECOMMENDED TRACK "Storm of Evil".
Next up is Funeral procession who return with their old school and depressive style of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark sounding intro before going into a heavier musical direction. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody.
Vocals are mostly grim yet depressive sounding black metal screams along with some clean playing also being utilized at times. Clear vocals are also added on some of the songs which also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and most of their tracks are also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover night and nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Funeral Procession and if you are a fan of old school and depressive black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Noctamantes" and "Moonstrvck".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of German black metal. 8 out of 10.
