This is another review of a recording from Iceland's solo project Ekdikēsis which continues the experimental black metal style of the previous release and the album was originally released in 2021 and called Canvas Of A New Dawn" which was re-issued in 2022 by Onism Productions.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album which also introduces spoken word samples onto the recording that also mixes in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. The music also gets very technical and dissonant sounding at times while the vocals are done are mostly grim black metal screams that also have their deeper moments.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the music also has its experimental moments. During the faster sections of the songs a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling along with the riffs also adding in a small amount of melody.
When dark soundscapes are introduced on the recording they also give the songs more of a sci-fi orientated atmosphere along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast part. At times the music also has its avant garde moments as well as some growls also being utilized on a few songs and when guitar leads are added onto the album they are done in a very chaotic style. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover space and science themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ekdikēsis and if you are a fan of experimental black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "On Stellar Wings" "Last Bastion of Light" and "Oxygen Lust". 8 out of 10.
