Italy's Sedna has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a mixture of post black, sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2022 album "Last Sun" which will be released in October by Drown Within.
Dark soundscapes and ambient style synths start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later. As the recording progresses grim yet high pitched black metal screams start making their presence known while the music also adds in some drones and goes into an experimental direction at times.
When clean guitars are added into the music they also add in some touches of post rock while the slower heavy riffing also brings in elements of sludge and doom metal. The guitar leads sticks to more of a dark yet melodic post metal style when they are utilized along with the album also being divided into 2 different acts and during the faster sections of the recording a small amount of tremolo picking and blast b eats can be heard which also takes the song into more of a rawer direction.
On this recording Sedna takes post black, sludge and doom metal and mixes them with ambient, drone and experimental to create a very diverse recording. The production sounds very dark while the lyrics cover scientific and philosophical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sedna and if you are a fan of post black, sludge, doom metal, experimental, ambient and drone, you should check out this album. 8 out of 10.
