Italy's solo project Nott has returned with a new recording which continues the raw style of black metal from their previous releases and this is a review of his 2022 album "XX" which was released by Schierling Klangskunst.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with all of the musical instruments on the recording also having a very powerful sound to them and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while some songs also add in a small amount of clear vocals. The songs also add in a good mixture of both modern and old school influences along with a couple of tracks also introducing clean playing acoustic guitars onto the recording as well as one song also being very long and epic in length, synths can also be heard briefly and spoken word parts can also b e heard towards the end.
On this recording Nott remains true to the raw style of black metal that he has established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover philosophical, nihilistic, anti religion and death themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Nott and if you are a f an of raw black metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Two Decades Of Oblivion" "Conclave of Fire" and "Twelve". 8 out of 10.
